It’s all about the words – ever since I first learned to read I have had a voracious appetite to learn and use new words – always seeking the exact one that would express my intent. Sometimes the words flow; other times they are elusive.
I’ve been involved in the arts almost all my life. Our home was always filled with lively sound – from jazz to pop to standards. Personally, I studied piano (classical, jazz, pop) and did some singing with a local chorus. Music is a ‘must’ for me until this day.
Needle arts – all kinds – came next. Understatement. More like avalanche!
Then I discovered Toulouse-Lautrec and the rest of the Impressionists. This was – oh maybe fifth grade. A life long love affair with the visual arts was launched. This includes an almost obsessive involvement with photography. Currently I am avidly developing my skills as a mixed media and fiber artist and think that just maybe this is the best of all worlds.
Back to words. I remember scribbling down bits of poetry from an early age but unfortunately didn’t hang on to them. Last year (2011) I experienced a life changing epiphany of sorts. One of the results is that I resumed writing. I am finding that by translating thoughts and feelings into words I am able to better focus on underlying feelings and in many cases to dispel or to ease the angst. Nowadays writing is not an option: it is a must.

Hi! I just noticed a comment you made yesterday on a thread on OM’s blog about not being able to elicit comments, so I thought I’d pop over and check out your blog, which is very cool! I think that part of the reason for not getting comments is that people prefer to just soak in poetry and photography and ponder it. Most people, even other poets, aren’t likely to discuss it the way people will comment on a current event or a philosophical viewpoint. I seldom get comments on my poetry posts. In truth, I don’t get tons of comments on my prose posts either, but it is more likely with them than my poetry. Hope you are enjoying sharing on your very own blog!

That can easily happen. I appreciate your feedback however you got here :). Your points regarding the nature of poetry are well taken. If my poems are prompting some people to stop and reflect and perhaps to recall a similar mood, then they are doing their job. Thank you.
